IMF Recognizes Argentina’s Steps to Improve Data After Censure (BLOOMBERG)

June 6 (Bloomberg) -- The International Monetary Fund,
which censured Argentina for misreporting economic data last
year, said it recognizes the country’s first steps to improve
its statistics in an interim assessment of the effort.
“The fund welcomes the ongoing discussions with the
Argentine authorities to improve the quality of Argentina’s
official” consumer price index and gross domestic product, the
IMF said in a statement today after a board meeting on the
matter. The IMF “stands ready to continue this dialogue, and,
more generally, to further strengthen relations with
Argentina.”
Argentina in December avoided sanctions from the fund,
which gave the country actions to implement by the end of
September and the end of February 2015. The IMF executive board
today “recognized the implementation of all the specified
actions it had called for at this juncture.”
Argentina, locked out of overseas markets since its record
$95 billion default in 2001, last month also took another step
toward a return to selling international bonds by agreeing to
repay its debt to the Paris Club.
