BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)--Argentina's shopping center sales rose 32.4% on the year to 1.34 billion pesos ($324.5 million) in June thanks to a cold snap.
Sales rose 10.7% from May, the national statistics agency, Indec, said in a statement.
In seasonally adjusted terms, sales rose 19.9% on the year and 4.6% from May.
Indec surveyed 34 shopping centers in the capital city and neighboring urban areas in Buenos Aires province.
Shopping centers are benefiting from an economy that is expected to grow just over 8% this year. Unemployment is close to multiyear lows, while consumer confidence remains near historic highs.
Inflation that most private sector economists say is above 20% and even higher wage increases won by unionized workers are also fueling Argentina's consumer spending spree.
With congressional and presidential elections in October, President Cristina Kirchner is widely expected to stimulate the economy through fiscal spending to improve her chances of winning re-election.
La economía argentina sigue volando. Esto al final de cuentas es lo único que nos debería interesar a los inversores en cupones.
