S&P 500 Index futures (/ES) are pointing to a higher open as positive earnings reports lift investors' spirits. Investors will also be examining today's economic data, including reports on durable goods and the weekly DOE inventory report. The highlight of the session will be the conclusion of the Fed's two day FOMC meeting. The rate decision is due out at 11:30 am CT, and rates are expected to stay the same. However, investors will be examining the accompanying statement for clues about any change in the Fed's fiscal policy. Shares of Apple (AAPL) will be in the spotlight today after the company reported another blowout quarter. The stock is currently up over 8% in the pre-market and has driven NASDAQ futures (/NQ) up over $50 this morning. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) fell slightly yesterday during the uneventful session. The fear indicator should be sharply lower after the opening bell as all major indices are positive. On the corporate front, shares of Boeing (BA), Caterpillar (CAT) and Eli Lilly (LLY) will be in the spotlight after releasing quarterly results. The companies all reported better than expected results and all are higher except CAT in the pre-market. Corporate results continue to out-perform but macroeconomic concerns are overriding the financial markets. Treasuries are lower again today and may have topped out after another strong rally over the last few weeks. Near-term direction on Bonds will be determined by any comments from the FED today on possible easing and fiscal policy. Volume should remain light as we head into the Fed meeting results today.
