Argentina Eyes Better Trade Ties With Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Argentina is interested in enhancing its trade and business ties with Malaysia, according to Senator Datuk Boon Som Inong, who was part of a Malaysian delegation that paid a courtesy call at Argentina's parliament building Salon Gris yesterday.
In a statement to Bernama here, Boon said Argentina Vice President and Senate President Amado Boudou expressed hope that although bilateral ties between the two countries are very good, they could be further improved.
Boudou said bilateral agreements signed between the two countries have helped to enhance trade ties.
Also in the delegation, led by Dewan Negara Deputy President Datuk Doris Sophia Brodi, was Malaysia's Ambassador to Argentina Datuk Mohd Ashri Muda.
Other than Boon, the other Dewan Negara members were Senator Datuk Lihan Jok, Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman and Senator Datuk Lim Nget Yoon.
They are on a six-day working visit to Argentina and a three-day visit to Uruguay.
Boudo acknowledged that the cooperation between Petronas and Argentinian oil company YPF (Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales) will increase and open up more opportunities for both countries to engage each other in trade and economic cooperation.
Boudo assured that since the cooperation is a long-term agreement, he could foresee that it would bring both Malaysia and Argentina much closer.
Petronas recently announced that it had signed agreements with national oil companies from Mexico and Argentina, extending its aspirations for growth in Latin America.
The companies involved in the agreements are Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and YPF.
Meanwhile, Brodie concurred that the upcoming cooperation between Petronas and YPF would bring both countries closer and open up many trade, economic and foreign investment opportunities.
