The Fed could announce a plan to start reducing its monthly $85 billion asset-purchase program. The stimulus program has flooded world financial markets with cash, and an easing of the buying could start a reverse flow of money back to the U.S.
"The Fed meeting is on everyone's radar," said Bruno Goncalves, an analyst at Sao Paulo's Alpes Brokerage. "We might finally hear something" about plans to start cutting back the program.
