Greece confirms it will miss deficit targets

(Reuters) - Greece will miss 2011 and 2012 budget deficit targets set by the EU and the IMF, according to figures published by the finance ministry on Sunday after the cabinet adopted the draft 2012 budget.

The budget deficit will reach 8.5 percent of GDP this year, missing a 7.6 percent target. It will be brought down to 6.8 percent of GDP next year but will still miss the bailout target of 6.5 percent of GDP.

"Three critical months remain to finish 2011, and the final estimate of 8.5 percent of GDP deficit can be achieved if the state mechanism and citizens respond accordingly," the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

ATENAS (Reuters) - Grecia no cumplirá con sus metas de déficit establecidas por el rescate de la UE y el FMI este año y el próximo y afronta una recesión peor a lo esperado, dijeron fuentes el domingo, antes de que el Gabinete apruebe el borrador de presupuesto del 2012.

Grecia espera que el déficit de su presupuesto de este año alcance un 8,5 por ciento del PIB, lejos de la meta de 7,6 por ciento establecida por sus prestamistas internacionales, de acuerdo a los documentos que serán aprobados por el Gabinete el domingo, dijeron dos fuentes.

El borrador de presupuesto prevé que el déficit bajará al 6,8 por ciento del PIB, por encima del objetivo de 6,5 por ciento exigido en el rescate que salvó a Atenas de la bancarrota, destacaron las fuentes.
