The intervention was confirmed by authorities, with the Bank of Japan saying the Ministry of Finance's action "will contribute to stable price formation in the market." The move comes a day after the Swiss National Bank cut its key lending rate to a narrower range around zero and took other measures to prevent the Swiss franc from rising further. LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- The Bank of Japan on Thursday moved its monetary-policy decision ahead by one day, with reports suggesting the central bank could announce moves to support the Ministry of Finance's intervention in the foreign-exchange market. The two-day meeting will be shortened to one day, with the decision now expected later Thursday. The announcement followed minutes after the ministry began selling yen to help halt the dollar's fall. Bank of Japan Gov. Masaaki Shirakawa said the central bank "strongly expects that the action taken by the Ministry of Finance in the foreign exchange market will contribute to stable price formation in the market.
