S&P 500 Index futures (/ES) are pointing to a lower open after China indicated further signs of slowdown with disappointing GDP data overnight. Spain concerns also resurfaced after news of heavy borrowing from Spanish banks in March may indicate further trouble ahead for the debt laden country. Domestic Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers came in a little higher than expected this morning at 0.3% however, increasing at a slower pace. Earnings season is beginning to take shape as financial giants JP Morgan and Wells Fargo both reported earlier this morning. Each company is trading slightly lower pre-market after mixed results. Next week will be very busy with a signficant percentage of blue chips reporting. The markets will also look to draw additional optimism from Bernanke’s speech later this afternoon as the Fed chairman's perspective may further hint at monetary easing.
Key Reports:
8:55am Central- UofM Consumer Sentiment
12:00pm Central- Fed Chairman Bernanke speaks
Earnings: JPM, WFC
