Latin American Ethylene: Brazil exports; Mexico tight

The ethylene market in Latin America was calm week on week, market participants said.
In Mexico, a source with Pemex said the ethylene's yield has been limited, with pricing currently pegged around $1,102/mt (50 cents/lb), within the domestic market.
"But we certainly are going to adjust the price in December," a source close to Pemex said.
Due to the limited availability, the source said no ethylene exports were expected in the near term. Meanwhile, in Argentina the ethylene market remained unchanged, following the international price trend. Brazil was heard exporting a volume of 2,000 mt to Dow Argentina, a source close to the Argentine polyethylene maker confirmed, adding that the purchase was for inventory purposes, not because of any issues with production.
Braskem was also heard having more ethylene to expor -- as much as 2,000 mt -- although no other transactions were heard by time of publication.
No production issues were heard for the week in Brazil. International market watchers saw US spot ethylene prices slip Wednesday on lenghtening supply, source said, as November was assessed 1.5 cent lower at 50.75-51.25 cents/lb FD USG. Platts did not assess Americas markets November 27 or November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday in the US.

Latin American Ethylene: Exports from Brazil possible: sources

Activity in the main ethylene markets in Latin America was slow amid falling prices globally and as the end of the year approached.


Some unconfirmed export activity continued to be heard from Brazil, with shippers reporting up to a full cargo of ethylene and C4s available for laycan in late December to international destinations. Market sources in the region said Braskem had been marketing small volumes for export, but a company source had previously stated Braskem did not plan on exporting for the remainder of the year but that they "have a lot of trade-offs to be analyzed."


Both Mexico and Brazil were last heard running with no production issues. Argentina, Dow was heard continuing to run both its crackers at full rate, a source with knowledge of company operations said. Regional participants tracking international markets saw US spot ethylene climb 2.75 cents/lb ($61/mt) week on week, assessed Friday at 43 cents/lb ($948/mt) FD USG, on the back of cracker restart delays by Dow Chemical and Formosa Plastics Corporation USA. In Northwest Europe, spot ethylene was assessed Friday at Eur820/mt FD NWE, down Eur34/mt week on week.

Latin American import PVC assessments dropped this week, following talks of continued weak buying interest and on lower crude pricing.


The CFR Brazil assessment was down $45/mt on Wednesday at $905-915/mt as trading levels for European sourced material were heard in the $900-920/mt range. The Peru assessment also dropped $45/mt for the week, assessed at $855-865/mt on a CFR basis, with trading levels heard around the $860/mt mark on CFR basis and offers were heard at $870-880/mt CFR basis.


One trading source said that bids for January deliveries in Peru were near the $800/mt CFR-basis, however selling interest at that level was not available. Trading levels for Argentina were heard at $1,500/mt for domestic market deliveries, while Argentina-origin PVC was heard offered at $1,080/mt CIF Paraguay.


US export PVC prices were pegged at $750/mt FAS Houston, as continued weak buying interest combined with short selling ahead of weaker than expected January prices were pushing prices to a 5-year low, sources said.

Que no te extrañe verla en 3 pesos la semana que viene, pero los 200k de hoy no son para nada despreciables y menos en esta época del año donde los volúmenes son bajos en casi todas las plazas.
