Tenaris Confab to invest USD 42 million for new research center

The multinational Halliburton, a provider of services to exploration and oil production, and Tenaris Confab, a maker of steel tubes, sign an agreement with the university for the construction of research facilities for developing new technologies for the petroleum sector and gas. The expected investment is USD 42 million.
Halliburton will occupy an area of seven thousand square meters and will invest about USD 26 million. His research center will focus on the characterization and monitoring of oil and gas reservoirs, productivity, construction and completion of wells. The US company intends to develop solutions to drive and performance of wells, electronics and software development and 3D visualization.
In turn, Tenaris Confab, which will also provide equipment for the nuclear power plant Angra 3, will occupy land of four thousand square meters, and perform studies for the mining, construction and automotive industries, apart from the participation in oil and gas. The goal, says the company is developing new technologies to weld pipes, testing and simulations for large diameter pipes and studies of metal coatings on polymers. In addition, a sector is expected to care specifically for premium connections, especially for the drilling of wells for P & G. The company shall apply this research center about USD 36 million.
It is expected that the works of both centers are started in the second half of 2011 and be completed by the end of 2012. With this, the center will consolidate UFRJ with the largest pole of research in the country for the oil and gas, which already has companies like Schlumberger, FMC, Baker Hughes, Usiminas, Lupatech and General Electric, which announced the center as a measure of an investment plan that adds USD 500 million in Brazil.
The park was opened in 2003 and has 350 thousand square meters, designed to accommodate companies of intensive sectors in different areas of knowledge.
